Privacy Policy

Identity and clipboard permissions have been removed as of v2024.3.2. They were only briefly included with v2024.3.0, and reliance on these permissions have been rolled back after user feedback. Future permissions deemed potentially controversial will be communicated publicly before the change is released or finalized in a new release.
  1. Tab Shelf does not collect user data; nor does it store any personally identifiable information such as emails or browser login credentials.
    • Tab Shelf does not collect analytics or telemetry data.
    • User input on visited sites, saved passwords, and cookies are not accessible by Tab Shelf.
    • Accessed tab and tab group data is only used for the purpose of displaying tab information to the user and is not transmitted to remote data sources or parties.
    • Your bookmarks will only be used to present a list of suggested sites to add to your grouping rules. Your bookmarks will not be copied, saved, or sent anywhere outside the context of Tab Shelf's grouping rules.
  2. Extension settings and grouping rules are stored locally; Otherwise they may optionally be synced with your Google or Microsoft account (depending on whether you are using Tab Shelf in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge) if you so choose. Your settings and grouping rules will not be shared with third-parties.
  3. Tab Shelf does not otherwise connect with remote servers unless it is fetching the favicons of your tabs or syncing your settings and grouping rules with Google's or Microsoft's account services.
    • Tab Shelf does not control the frequency of sync events; it is controlled by the browser.

tabs

Tabs permissions are used to:

  • Display your tabs and relevant metadata in the tab list.
  • Determine how to filter your tabs.
  • Open new tabs.
  • Sleep, mute, move, and close tabs.

tabGroups

Tab group permissions are used to:

  • Determine how to filter grouped tabs and ungrouped tabs.
  • Determine how to decorate grouped tabs.
  • Determine whether grouping rules should create a new group or if an existing group could be used to move tabs to.

storage

Storage permissions are used to:

  • Manage your extension settings and grouping rules data.
  • Sync your extension settings and grouping rules via your Google account (your account information is not accessible via this permission and Chrome controls when syncing happens).

sidePanel

Side panel permissions are used to:

  • Display the Tab Shelf app inside the browser's side panel view.

favicon

Favicon permissions are used to:

  • Display cached the favicons (icons) of your tabs in the tab list.

commands

Commands permissions are used to:

  • Enable the side panel to be opened or closed using keyboard shortcuts.
  • Enable user-customizable keyboard shortcuts.

bookmarks

Bookmarks permissions are used to:

  • Display a list of your bookmarks in grouping rules editor.
  • Allow for the bookmark URLs to be added to grouping rules.
